BARN CONVERSIONS

BARN CONVERSION SPECIALISTS IN CORNWALL AND DEVON

Barn conversion specialists. We specialise in the conversion and renovation of period, Listed and derelict barns. We understand the nature of period buildings and have a sympathetic approach to conversion and restoration using natural, locally sourced materials. We have over 15 years’ experience converting disused farm buildings into modern homes, holiday lets and business accommodation. We work with our clients to retain period features, whilst providing a modern and contemporary finish where required.

STONE MASONRY

A traditional building method, we specialise in stone masonry. Our team of stone masons have experience building and re-building existing stone walls for barn conversions, period properties, extensions and boundary walls.

LIME POINTING

Lime mortar is a softer material when compared with cement and reduces the level of moisture in the fabric of a building. It is recommended when pointing traditional masonry walls. Together with lime plastering and rendering, we have the skills and experience required to repair and maintain period walls.

SLATE ROOFING

Slate is a traditional roof covering typically found on older buildings, due to its durability and attractive appearance. Our team has experience stripping and replacing existing slate covered roofs, including Cornish Rag and sized slate. Our work includes construction and fitting timber A-frames to support new pitched roofs.

LISTED BUILDINGS

A building is ‘Listed’ when it is considered to be of special architectural, historic or national importance and therefore worth protecting. A Listed building is added to the National Heritage List for England and put into one of three categories; Grade I, Grade II and Grade II*.

When a building is Listed, there is control over what changes can be made to the building’s exterior and interior, and owners will need to apply for Listed Building Consent for most types of work. All Listed buildings are unique and what is covered by a listing can vary from one property to another.

It is not uncommon for Listed buildings to fall into disrepair. We have experience restoring Listed buildings to their former glory and are barn conversion specialists. We use traditional building methods and materials including lime mortar and Cornish Rag slate. Our work includes renovations, extensions to Listed buildings, roofing and general ongoing maintenance.
